Sense and Sensibility
Was watching the 1996 adoption of Sense and Sensibility, an excellent movie. The actors were all very appropriate, and very persuasive. Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman were very good in there (one cannot believe how young Grant looked in that movie). It was odd though, as Vanessa pointed out, to see the same actor who did Professor Snape dressed in the Regency era clothes, but he acted well, and I liked his character. Unfortunately for me, I could not shake the thought of Professor Snape completely off my mind and laughed out loud when the Colonel was reading Shakespeare to Marianne.
I do think there is one actor that stood out particularly though, and that is Hugh Laurie. He played Mr. Palmer, a minor character who hardly said six lines, but he gripped the attention of the audience every single line. He was absolutely fabulous in the movie. The story was charming but it pales against Pride and Prejudice (which to this day remains my favorite book ever), Elizabeth's character betters both Elinor and Marianne by far. I wish I can be as good as Elizabeth in personality, but I think she is the way everyone dreams to be but can never be. posted by Arc 11:16:00 PM |
